Rails and Ales

rails & ales 2011 participating breweries

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad was kind enough to respond today to my query about the participating breweries for this year’s Rails and Ales. The wife could tell something was up from the enthusiasm I beamed after reading the list; she always gets a kick out of the anticipation I show when I learn of some big news (for me) in the world of craft beer.

The line-up is a great mix of Front Range and Western Slope breweries and even one from New Mexico, for a total of 21 breweries, up from the 16 of last year. Many of the Western Slope brewers I’ve been planning to get to in the future, and now will at least be able to try their beers. For me the biggest pleasant surprise is the inclusion of Palisade Brewing which I wrote about a couple of months ago; I’m eager for the wife to taste their tremendously tasty offerings since she wasn’t on the trip when I visited them. I’m also looking forward to tasting Three Barrel’s draughts; the wife and I tried to visit them a number of years ago on our way to Durango, but they were closed the day we stopped by.

Overall, I think it’s a great and diverse offering of Colorado (and New Mexico) craft beer. If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, you may want to rethink holding off once you read the list. For more on the festival, check out my post from last year.
